Materials:

  • Healthy parent plant: Choose a healthy and mature plant from which you want to take cuttings.
  • Pruning shears or sharp scissors: Use clean and sharp tools to make clean cuts.
  • Pot or container: You'll need a pot or container for planting the cuttings.
  • Potting mix: Use a well-draining potting mix suitable for the type of plant you're propagating.
  • Rooting hormone (optional): Rooting hormone can enhance the success rate of root development in some plants.

1. Select a Healthy Parent Plant:

Choose a healthy Golden Pothos plant with long vines from which you want to take cuttings.

2. Prepare the Cutting:

Using clean pruning shears or scissors, take a cutting from the parent plant. Cut just below a leaf node, which is where a leaf meets the stem.

3. Trim and Remove Leaves:

Trim any excess leaves from the cutting, leaving a few leaves at the top for photosynthesis and support.

4. Apply Rooting Hormone (Optional)

Dip the cut end of the stem into rooting hormone powder. While this step is optional, it can promote faster root development.

5. Place the Cutting in Water:

Fill a clear glass or jar with room-temperature water. Submerge the lower part of the cutting in the water, ensuring that the nodes are submerged.

6. Provide Adequate Light:

Place the container in a location with bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can be too intense for the cutting.

7. Change Water and Monitor Growth:

Change the water every 1-2 weeks to prevent stagnation and maintain water quality. Keep an eye on the cutting for signs of root development, which may take a few weeks to a few months.

8. Wait for Root Development:

Be patient and allow the cutting to develop roots. You'll notice small white roots growing from the nodes submerged in water.

9. Transplant into Soil:

Once the cutting has developed a sufficient root system (typically when the roots are a few inches long), you can transplant it into a pot with well-draining potting mix if desired. Plant it at the same depth as it was in the water.

10. Pothos Care:

Water the Pothos every 1-2 weeks and keep in bright, indirect light.
